I heard Chris Smither tell this on Youtube filmed at the Fur Piece. . .

At the Pearly Gates, St. Peter was on vacation, so God was sitting in for him. Two dogs and a cat arrived. God looks at the first dog, and says "What do you have to say for yourself?"

The dog says "Oh, I was a good dog. I always came, and one time I saved a boy in a river."

God says "Ok. Come sit here on my right side." He looks at the other dog, and says "What about you?"

The other dog says "I was a good dog too! I came, and rolled over, but I didn't save a boy in a river."

God says "Fine. Come sit on my left side." He asks the cat "What do you have to say?"

The cat says "You're sitting in my chair."
